In
2003 United Way of the Greater Dayton Area completed an initial
needs assessment overview. From the data in that report and
the historical trends of the prior five years of funding based on
seven outcome areas, community volunteers identified three Priority
Areas for our local United Way for 2003 and beyond. This
year, with the assistance of Wright State University Center for
Urban and Public Affairs and other data-gathering partners, United
Way published a more in-depth Community Assessment that identifies
needs and begins to map local health and human service assets.
The data in assessment shaped this Priorities Report, which will
guide the 2005-2008 United Way funding cycle decisions. It
will also provide a framework for the activities of the volunteer
Priority Teams over the next three years.
The Priority Teams
are comprised of a cross-section of volunteers representative of our
community. In developing the priority recommendations, the
volunteers sought to keep a regional perspective for relevance to
Montgomery, Greene, and Preble Counties. They examined high
needs and discussed the capacity for impact and appropriateness of
United Way support. The priority recommendations are more focused
than the initial three, but still intentionally broad as United Way
continues to work with our stakeholders to define the core services
for this community. To
