Press Release
United Way Stops Time to Launch Annual Campaign

Dayton, OH, Tuesday, September 8, 2009
- United Way of the Greater Dayton Area’s 2009 Campaign will launch tomorrow 9/9/09 at 12:09 p.m. with three synchronized flash mobs at Montgomery County’s Courthouse Square, The Greene in Beavercreek, and the Preble County Courthouse.

The flash mobs will be immediately followed by a rally at all three sites.  Vince Corrado, Chairman of Shook Corporation and 2009 United Way Campaign Chair, will address the crowd at Courthouse Square, Greene County Commissioner and Greene County Campaign Chair Rick Perales will speak at The Greene, and Preble County Campaign Chair Reverend Wayne Morrison of First Presbyterian Church in Eaton will talk in Preble.

This year’s campaign goal is to raise between $9.5 million and $10 million.  United Way officials set the goal as a range because it will be a challenge to replace the nearly half million dollars contributed by NCR and its employees in 2008, but the needs are greater than ever.  According to Mr. Corrado, the local United Way will need 9,000 new donors giving a dollar a week to fill the gap caused by the departure of NCR.

In celebration of our community and the United Way campaign, restaurants throughout the region will be offering discounts to individuals sporting a LIVE UNITED shirt or button and/or donating a portion of the day’s proceeds to the annual campaign.  Participating restaurants include:  Blind Bob’s Tavern, Brio Tuscan Grille, Brixx, Café Boulevard, Dublin Pub, Flying Pizza, Gregory’s Piano Bar, and Pacchia.

The annual United Way campaign supports local health and human service programs provided by 78 Partner Agencies.  To find out more about United Way funded programs and how to start your own workplace campaign, visit www.LiveUnitedDayton.org.
